Writing Real Sex is a workshop for anyone who wants to put honest, embodied language to sex, desire, intimacy, and the complicated terrain around them. Led by memoirist and journalist Sarah Gallucci (Laid: A Memoir of Love, Sex, and Marriage), this class invites writers to move past shame, abstraction, and cliché to write about sex in ways that feel true, artful, and intentional.
Historically, many voices—especially women, LGBTQIA+ writers, disabled writers, and writers of color—have been discouraged or outright silenced when it comes to writing about sexuality. This workshop creates a private, respectful space to explore sex on the page using craft tools, poetry techniques, and trauma-informed approaches, without pressure to share work with peers. The goal is not shock or confession, but literature: writing that honors lived experience and sensory truth.
In this workshop, you’ll:
Learn craft techniques for writing sex that feels authentic, vivid, and grounded in the body
Identify and work through shame, fear, or resistance around writing about sex and taboo topics
Explore the spectrum of sex writing—from pleasure to pain, intimacy to rupture—with care and clarity
Develop a sense of purpose (“why”) for your sex writing and define your personal boundaries
*If you would like a preview of this course, the “vibe,” and the prompts, please listen to my interview on Let’s Talk Memoir.
Come write what you’ve been told not to - and write it well.
